Grantown Cottage


Story:

My Grandparents used to travel over seas to Scotland every four or five years.  They would always return with photogarphs of the beautiful countryside and quaint villages and tell us stories of those who lived there.  As a part of their journey the Grant family tree was always being researched.  My Granfather told me a story of going into a clockmakers shop in Grantown.  The sign in front of the shop said “Robert C. Grant – Clockmaker”.  My Grandfather, Robert C. Grant, walked in and asked for Robert Grant only to discover that he died over a hundred years earlier.  Although disapointed not to meet the clockmaker with the same name, he did discover that he had many relatives living in G rantown.  That encounter gave my grandparents an opportunity to reconnect with their Scottish family.  They made many other such discoveriers over the years.  Their adventures gave me a love for Scotland its traditions and its Architecture.  The Grantown Cottages draws its influence from early Appalachain architecture.  Some of the first to settle the southern appalacains were Scottish immigrants.  With them they brought traditions that shaped early appalachain culture.
